11/17/15: How to Pray

How to Pray

The only thing the disciples asked Jesus to teach them was how to pray. Never assume that people know how

to pray; there is a right way and a wrong way.

To sum it all up:

Matthew 6:9 –

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.”

This acknowledges that God is holy and gives Him praise.

Verse 10 –

“Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”

This acknowledges that we desire God’s will more than our own; we want His kingdom, which

means a king’s domain on earth.

Verse 11 –

“Give us this day our daily bread.”

This simply means to give us that which we need today – strength, guidance, food, clothes, and shelter.

Verse 12 –

“Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors.”

Meaning that we understand that if we cannot forgive others, He cannot forgive us.

Verse 13 –

“Lead us not into temptation” …

Meaning help us to avoid it:

“deliver us from evil”

Should I find myself in a compromising situation, give me the wisdom to get out safe.

“for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever.”

Finishing our prayer time with praise as we began it.

1. Always begin prayer with praise and worship

2. Pray God’s will, not ours; salvation and healing to all.

3. Tell God all your needs.

4. Ask for forgiveness and strength to forgive.

5. Keep us from doing wrong and protect us from evil.

6. Finish with praise and worship.
